The Pittsburgh Food Tent Explosion
On Friday, May 31, 2024, an over-pressurized propane tank ruptured, allowing propane vapors to escape, ignite, and cause an explosion at the at the Three Rivers Arts Festival in Downtown Pittsburgh. A 28-year-old worker suffered severe burns to his arms and legs, and was rushed to the hospital for further treatment.
Tragically, these facts are eerily similar to a prior case handled by ILP cofounder Ben Baer. In 2014, a propane tank that fueled a food truck ruptured in Philadelphia. The propane tank should never have been filled, its ruptured was a result of over-pressurization. Due to the efforts of Ben and his fellow attorneys on the team, a settlement was reached in the amount of $160 million. At the time, this held the record of the largest pretrial settlement in the history of Pennsylvania State Court.
It is sad to learn that despite the efforts made on the Philadelphia food truck explosion case, people are still being injured by over-pressurized propane tanks in Pennsylvania. ILP offers our heartfelt condolences to all those injured in the Pittsburgh food tent explosion on Friday. We are ready to get involved and use our stable of experts, apply our unique experience and knowledge to investigate this explosion, and help obtain justice for these victims.
