Tree Safety and the Loss of a Limb – What You Need to Know
A parent brought their young toddler for a fun-filled morning at a birthday party and never expected it would become the worst day of their lives – and have a lasting impact on their young son.
On July 6, 2024, a young toddler was playing at a birthday party in a driveway in Montgomery County when a branch fell about 50 feet, striking the child. The boy was brought to CHOP, where his arm was amputated.
David Langsam, ILP Cofounding Partner, has extensive experience with tree-related incidents that cause catastrophic injuries and wrongful death. Trees pose a unique risk to citizens; they are beautiful and important components of any urban and suburban landscape, but they also need to be meticulously inspected and maintained by qualified professionals.
The party hosts, in this case, likely had zero concerns about the trees on their property surrounding the party.
This incident raises several questions:
- Had the homeowners ever had their trees inspected or maintained by a professional?
- Were there any warning signs that the trees surrounding their property posed any risk?
We extend condolences to the victim’s family and are here for support or counsel for them – or any victim of tragic circumstances like these.
